Madrid - La ciudad que nunca duerme Madrid - La ciudad que nunca duerme

The cosmopolitan capital of the region of Catalonia in Spain is known for its art and architecture.

The fantastic church of the Sagrada Familia and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí adorn the city. The Picasso Museum and the Joan Miró Foundation show the modern art of the artists that give rise to their names. The Museum of History of Barcelona (MUHBA) includes several Roman archaeological sites.

The medieval roots of Barcelona can be seen in the labyrinthine Gothic Quarter. The overflowing central coastal promenade, La Rambla, is lined with cafes.

To the north of La Barceloneta, a neighbourhood with a wide beach and seafood restaurants, the Parque de la Ciudadela houses the Barcelona Zoo. Park Güell is a garden on a hilltop with colourful Gaudi mosaics and panoramic views. A funicular moves to the top of Montjuïc, where the Magic Fountain presents shows of lights and music, and the National Palace shows Catalan art.

The culinary scene, centred on the La Boquería market, varies from fine preparations to tapas bars. There is also a lively nightlife in El Born and the Eixample district.
